BEAUTIFUL MUSIC
Currently my favorite song is "Free money" by Patti Smith.
The song questions the present world we live in. The scary part is how much money really means to us, how greatly we depend on it, and what disgusting desires it brings to mankind nowadays. Most people write songs to become famous, but this clearly is a song written with the intention of touching people with an important message:
Making people open their eyes for what a beautiful world we live in, not being so damn money obsessed and focusing so much on stuff we don’t have.
Through the sarcastic, ironic voice Patti sings with in this song, you clearly fell her anger and frustration about the materialistic view people have on life these days. I really like her honesty and different viewpoints. I can relate to what she sings about, even though it was written over 35 years ago, when the society was entirely different from the one we live in today.
Besides the message she wants to send out, I like the melodic structure in the song. It starts out soft, with the piano evocatively and slowly playing its solo. The tempo rises as more rocky instruments, such as drums, bass, guitar and vocals, are added. In the end the tempo is at the very top, and every instrument plays to the hilt. The song ends with a big bang, which prints the song and the whole message even deeper into your mind. A beautiful song, sung by a beautiful singer.
Since I started at Sankt Annæ gymnasium majoring music, studying among musicians, playing music all the time, thinking about music all the time, talking about music all the time, I'm beginning to love it more and more. Music is the only thing that makes sense around here anymore. And I havent even played for that long.
Wondering how my life would look in ten years from now, if I keep on going like this. Making a living out of playing music, would be living the sweet lifte. Yes it would.
